• By 2030 the population age 65 and older will increase 92% to 21,691 people. This group will make up 19% of the county’s population.
• Compared to the state, older adults have similar education, 30% are baby boomers, 49% live in rural areas, 24% are African American, and 29% have two or more disabilities.
• The median income is lower, and more older adults are below the poverty level.
• Falls account for 7% of hospitalizations; arthritis and diabetes account for 20% of physician visits.
