Health Promotion Programming

In 2006 adults ≥ 65 made up 9% of the county’s population

• By 2030 the population age 65 and older will increase 173% to 37,804 people. This group will make up 14% of the county’s population.
• Compared to the state, older adults are less educated, 69% live in rural areas, there are slightly more baby boomers, and similar levels of disability and racial distribution.
• The median income levels are lower for all age groups; 55% of those aged 75+ are either at or below the poverty level.
• There were two Code Red days in 2006.
