Detailed Description of Enhance Fitness
This is a low-cost, highly adaptable exercise program developed specifically for older adults. The exercises have been packaged into a formal regimen focusing on four key areas important to the health and fitness of mature participants: stretching, low impact aerobics, strength training, and balance. Classes meet three times a week for approximately 60 minutes, providing social stimulation as well as physical benefits. Classes are taught by certified fitness instructors that attend a 1.5-day training session. They must also be certified by a nationally recognized fitness organization such as the YMCA, or the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). There is also a licensing fee and an annual renewal fee. Outcomes include improved strength, activity levels, and mood.
